Curated by executive director Peter Schreyer, the exhibition includes work from Mary’s personal collection as well as from that of the Mennello Museum of American Art.

May 11 to September 1
Heritage Center Gallery, The Sage Project: Hannibal Square Elders Tell Their Stories.
In celebration of Winter Park’s 125th anniversary, this exhibition will capture, preserve, and share the historic recollections of 25 of west Winter Park’s eldest lifelong African-American community members, ranging in age from 85 to 106. Through environmental portraits by documentary photographer Peter Schreyer and oral histories collected by Center historian Fairolyn Livingston, with the support of humanities scholars Dr. Ron Habin and Dr. Kristin Congdon, The Sage Project will add a permanent collection of national significance to Crealdé’s Hannibal Square Heritage Center.

Opening event and celebration from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 11, in partnership with the Winter Park Historical Association, beginning with a performance by the Center for Contemporary Dance at the adjacent Shady Park Stage, followed by a reception at the Heritage Center.

On May 12, following the exhibition opening, a panel discussion will be held with Dr. Habin, Ms. Livingston, Mr. Schreyer, and two community elders who participated in the project, in partnership with the Rollins College Office of Multicultural Affairs and Office of Community Engagement, engaging professors and students from UCF’s RICHES Program as well as students from Rollins College Departments of Anthropology & Archeology.
