Make sure bristles are pliable and not stiff with old paint or badly frayed

PALETTE KNIFE

PAINTS
(I use Rembrandt brand, but bring whatever you prefer)
Naples Yellow
Cadmium Yellow Deep
Cadmium Yellow Light
Cadmium Red Light or Winsor and Newton’s Artists’ Oil Colour in Cadmium Red
Transparent Oxide Red
French Ultramarine Blue Deep
Cobalt Blue
Ivory Black
Permalba Brand white or Titanium White or Flake White or whichever white you prefer
Alizarin Crimson or Rose Madder Deep

Other options that I use as needed or dictated by the subject (not on palette for every day):
Pthalo Blue or Cerulean Blue
Raw Umber or Burnt Umber

MEDIUM
Neo Megilp by Gamblin, a modern replacement for Maroger. Bring whatever you prefer,
something with nice viscosity, not too sticky and not a drying accelerator

Turpenoid Natural or Odorless Turpenoid ONLY, for cleaning brushes and palette

PALETTE
Plexiglass or glass gives the nicest slick surface. Back with cardboard or some medium valued
material to simulate your toned canvases. Or whatever palette you prefer. I don’t suggest anything white.
It is too hard to judge values on it.

PAPER TOWELS

PAINTING SURFACE
Canvas or masonite that you have treated with several (3)coats of gesso, sanded lightly after,
and then toned with a neutral color mix, and medium value range with oil paint and medium.

SIZES: bring a RANGE of sizes about 12 x 16, 14 x 18, 16 x 20 or 18 x 24 at the largest and
some smaller sizes as well. I find it best to bring in a variety of sizes so you can choose one that best fits your set up.
