Class Description:

In this class, students will study and research several old textile techniques developed in Asia. Old traditional stitch like couching used on Chinese costume making will be taught to create modern design. Hand Spinning will give participants an experience to make unique thread samples. Students also will be given an idea how Korean traditional wrapping cloth called “Po-ja-gi” can be made. Triple stitch and traditional way of starching will be explained in this class. No prerequisite or experience is required for this class; just basic sewing skills needed.


Supplies (samples will be provided) for couching:

Embroidery hoop or frame
Heavy yarns for core thread (wool, coiled rayon, and etc)
Needles (upholstery needle, regular needle)
Embroidery thread


Supplies for Po-Ja-gi (Korean wrapping cloth):

Sheer fabric like silk organza linen, hemp (at least 2 colors)
