INTRODUCTION TO OIL PAINTING

 

 

 

SUPPLY LIST

 

 

You will not need the painting materials on the first day of class – they will be discussed in detail for those who may be unsure of what to buy.  You are encouraged to take some notes at the first class, and materials for a color exercise will be provided.

 

Colors needed:

1.      Titanium white

2.      Alizarin crimson

3.      Cadmium red light

4.      Cadmium yellow light

5.      Pthalo blue

6.      Ultramarine blue

7.      Raw Umber

 

Palette:

Disposable palette pad is best – 12”x16”, wood or plexiglass is fine.

 

 

Brushes:  At least five bristle brushes between sizes 3 and 10

                Good quality 3 or 4 inch house painting brush or “gesso brush”

 

 

Palette knife (straight)

Painting knife

Palette cup

 

 

Fredrix canvas pad – 12”x16”

Stiff board – approx. 14”x18”; a Fredrix canvas panel works well

Masking tape

Paper towels or Scott tissue

 

 

Odorless turpentine substitute

Linseed oil

 

 

Acrylic gesso – 1 quart
