COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Watercolor One is a course for beginning Watercolor Students. It is hoped that through this course the Student will understand transparent Watercolor techniques. To help the Student in different styles of execution afford by using a transparent water based medium. Throughout this course, individual style will be greatly encouraged. The Student will be given the opportunity to critique their own work.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
With assignments given throughout this course, the Student will have the opportunity to develop a strong foundation in Watercolor as a medium. Enabling the Student to transmit the concept, helping the Student feel comfortable “roughing out” ideas as well as to analyze, to see, and to experiment with color. In this course the Student will learn some practical Watercolor techniques for a variety of purposes; values will be stressed throughout the course.
COURSE OUTLINE:
There will be assignments given during this course, each varying in degrees of complexity and techniques. On most assignments the Student will be working on a painting of their choice. Demonstrations will be given almost every week so please try to make it to class.
WEEKLY PROGRESS WILL BE AS FOLLOWS:
WEEK ONE: First class will cover Syllabus and Material list
WEEK TWO: Study in washes; Flat wash, Graded wash, Wet in Wet wash, Streaky wash, and very dark washes. Brush strokes, textures, and brush manipulation. Special tools and effects.
WEEK THREE: Study of a color wheel using our palette and learning how to mix colors.
WEEK FOUR: Learning how to approach a paint in Watercolor and setting up a value study.
WEEK FIVE: Continued work on a painting.
WEEKS SIX THROUGH EIGHT: continued work on more paintings and different techniques given by the Instructor. Critiques will be given throughout this course.
MARTERIAL LIST: Will be discussed in the first class. Please try to come to class prepared.
