COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The student will learn basic principles of drawing and composition. The following topics will be covered: contour lines; shading to depict light and volume; perspective and composition. Demonstrations, examples from the masters and one-on-one instruction will be used to reinforce the students understanding of drawing concepts.
COURSE OUTLINE:
Lines: blind contour, blocking in, proportions.
Lines: varying lines (placement in space), drawing multiple objects in correct
proportion to each other.
Lines: applied perspective, constructive perspective.
Tones: volume and light, rub-out technique.
Tones: continuation.
Tones: continuation.
Tonal composition: to-tone and three-tone drawings (arrangements of tones to
make patterns).
Composition: arrangements of pos./neg. shapes; movement.
Materials: soft vine charcoal, drawing pencils (HB, 4B), charcoal pencil (4B), kneaded
eraser, blending stump, drawing pad (14”x17”, suitable for pencil, charcoal), hairspray or workable fixative.
*You will need paper and pencils for the first night.
