PD101 Intro to Drawing

Friday, 10:00–12:00 p.m. Studio 1A
Designed for beginning art students. Participants are introduced to art
fundamentals by sampling drawing principles and techniques including contour,
proportion, basic perspective using the sighting technique, and shading. Most
supplies are provided.

Open to beginning students as an introduction to the fundamentals of art while
sampling various drawing and painting techniques using different media,

A beginning level course covering intaglio, monoprint, monotype and relief

Have you ever wanted to draw the human figure but didn’t know where to start?
This six-week class offers an introduction to figure drawing where you will
learn essential drawing skills and concepts while working from a live model. The
class will focus on discovering methods of drawing the figure accurately.
Develop critical thinking abilities and learn to “draw with your eyes.”
Understanding the human figure is your best asset in achieving your artistic
goals.

Students learn the technical aspects of drawing the human head from a live model
and other sources. Working in pencil and charcoal, students also are encouraged
to explore the genre’s expressive possibilities.

NEW: PD226 The Sketch in Color
Instructor: Sherwood Myers
Friday, 1:00–3:00 p.m. Studio 1B
Through this new and exciting class students will explore different techniques
for adding color to their sketches. To successfully illustrate design ideas and
observe the colors that surround you in your everyday life. We will study ten
basic color principles using markers, colored pencils and watercolor to express
values. In this class we will also be using different Media & Paper to work on.
Field trips are a part of this class. A list of materials is available at Art
Systems of Florida. Prerequisite: Intro to Drawing or similar exp.

PD305 Portrait Painting
Instructor: Don Sondag
Wednesday, 6:45–9:45 p.m. Studio 1A
Six-week class begins June 18. Working directly from the live model students
will establish proportions and bone structure. Using either oils or acrylics
students will concentrate on drawing, value and color to develop their painting,
with an emphasis placed on achieving a likeness. Tuition includes model fees.
Prereq: Intro to Oils, Fundamentals of Color, Portrait Drawing or similar
experience.

Students work in any medium from a live model who holds one pose the entire

Fee: $80 for eight weeks or $6 per hour to drop in.
PD031 Open Studio: Life Drawing
with Paul McNear

Students work from a live model. Session begins with quick gestures, moving to
longer poses. No instruction provided. No pre-registration needed but membership

3-Day Painting Workshop: June 6 - 8
Painting the Still Life
in Oil or Acrylic
with Terry Trambauer Norris

Friday through Sunday,
10:00 am - 5:00 pm Daily
Registration deadline: June 1
Members $250, Non-members $270
Learn classic methods and techniques for creating beautiful
still life paintings. Students will carry one painting through
three stages to completion, focusing on idea and composition on
day one, color on the second day, and day three is for
finishing. There will be plenty of individual attention , plus
demonstrations all three days, covering under-painting, glazing,
impasto, and more . Students may work in oils or acrylics, and
are encouraged to bring some of their own still life objects,
though there will be objects, fruit and flowers available at the
workshop. Students may, if they choose, bring paintings that
they have done outside of class for individual critique.
Suitable for intermediate to advanced levels. Limited to 10
students.
Terry Trambauer Norris has been a Senior Faculty Member at
Crealdé for seven years, and a teacher of visual art for
fifteen. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and
competitions across the United States, most recently appearing
in The 2007 Eastern Regional Exhibition of the Oil Painters of
America, in which the painting Iron Pot with Onions, received
the Award of Excellence for Best Still Life.

May 24 & 25
Intaglio Printmaking Workshop
with David Hunter

Saturday & Sunday, 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Registration deadline: May 21
Members $200, Non-members $220
Students will learn the following techniques: Basic line
etching, Aquatint, Soft ground etching, Single intaglio inking
and printing.
Addtional inking/printing techniques: a la poupé,
multiple intaglio, single intaglio with surface roll (ink of a
different color), chine collé. Each student will create their
own project to be taken home. All materials and two etching
presses provided.
A native of central Florida, David Hunter holds a B.A. and M.A.
in zoology from the University of South Florida. For the past 26
years he has supported himself and his family through his
artwork, mainly etching and monotypes. David has participated in
art shows from Miami to Michigan, and shows his work in
galleries in Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, North Carolina, and
Massachusetts.
