A complete introduction to forming, decorating, glazing, and firing clay
objects. Instruction covers basic to advanced construction methods of coil,
pinch, and slab construction, exposing students to clay’s infinite
possibilities. Projects are appropriate to all levels as a continuing learning
experience.

TD122 Beginning Wheelthrowing

Learn to center, open, and compress clay and throw small cylinders on the
potter’s wheel. Trimming, finishing, adding handles, feet, and spouts gives
students finished pieces ready to glaze and fire.

This class is four weeks long. In this class you will handbuild a pagoda step by
step, using wooden forms to insure uniformity so the finished sections will fit
together. The final piece will be stained and glazed for a mid-range stoneware
firing.

Archaeologists have learned much about the ancient world from its surviving
pottery. Join us as we construct pieces using coil, pinch and slab techniques,
with an emphasis on forms reflecting the works of early cultures, including
pre-Columbian America, Mesopotamia, Egypt, Africa, Greece, Rome and the Far
East. For all levels.

This class is four weeks long. Learn how to mix a glaze recipe, use a variety of
glaze techniques and blend glazes to expand your color palette. Some
handbuilding or wheel skills useful but not essential. There will be three
electric glaze firings and 1 gas reduction firing.

Designed to build on skills acquired in earlier classes. Demonstrations and

TD132 Introduction to Repoussé

This class is six weeks long. This class will explore the ancient art of
sculpting copper directly. Become familiar with tools and techniques in the art
of embossing copper while creating sculptures using the repoussé technique.
Demonstrations and hands-on assistance will be part of each meeting.

NEW: TD220 The Portrait Bust in Clay

Students will explore the fundamentals of creating a clay head, beginning with
basic information concerning proportions and moving on to how to approach
working with a live model. All works will be fired at the end of the session.

Working with water-based clay, oil-based clay, and wax, students will create
studies from a live model. Personal expression, proportion, and
the use of tools and techniques will be covered during this series of sessions.

NEW: TD173 Intro to Jewelry Design

Saturday, 12:30–2:30 p.m. starts 1/17 Studio 7
This class is six weeks long. Create your own unique metal jewelry! In this
class, students learn fabrication methods to design and create wearable jewelry
pieces in copper, brass, and silver. Processes include stone setting, soldering,
sawing, filing, embossing, coloring, and polishing. Demonstrations and hands-on
assistance will be part of each meeting.

Crealdé instructor Stefan Alexandres has a
solo repoussé exhibition at the Bok Tower Gardens from October 1 to November 24,
2008. Stefan’s work will also appear, along with Marsha DeBroske’s, in a
two-artist sculpture show: “Visions of Metals” in November at the Creative
Spirit Art Gallery, 820A Lake Baldwin Lane, Orlando, FL 32803.
Crealdé ceramics instructor Rob LaWarre will be in four national shows
this September through November. They are the “Platters and Pourers” show in
Baltimore MD, the “George Ohr Challenge” in Biloxi MS, “History in the Making
III” in Rochester NY, and the “Salt and Soda National IV” in Missoula, Montana.

NFL Awards to be designed at
Crealdé
David Cumbie has been commissioned by the Dick Butkus
Foundation in Chicago to create three bronze National Awards for
the top linebackers in the country: a 10-inch high school award,
a 12-inch college award and a 16-inch NFL award. All the awards
will be given out at the end of this year, and annually
thereafter. |
